FACT OF THE DAY: On July 22, 2008, a contestant on “The Price is Right” played Plinko, and her first three chips all dropped into the $10,000 center slot. Producers immediately stopped the production and discovered fishing line on the Plinko board that routed the chips to the winning slot. It was then discovered that the show’s marketing team had installed the line to film a promo, and forgotten to remove it. The contestant’s game was re-recorded for broadcast, earning her $3,000. By law, she was also allowed to keep the initial $30,000.
