FACT OF THE DAY: Rob Reiner offered Frank Darabont a multi-million dollar deal for the rights to “The Shawshank Redemption,” which Reiner planned to direct with Tom Cruise in the starring role. Darabont refused, directed the film himself, and cast Tim Robbins.
