FACT OF THE DAY: "Die Hard" was based on the 1979 novel "Nothing Lasts Forever," which was a sequel to the 1966 novel "The Detective," which was itself made into a 1968 movie starring Frank Sinatra. The studio was thus contractually obligated to offer the lead role in “Die Hard” to Sinatra, who was then over 70 years old; Sinatra declined.
