FACT OF THE DAY: The distinctive arrangement of spikes on the tail of a Stegosaurus are called the thagomizer. The word was adopted directly from a 1982 “The Far Side” cartoon, where a caveman refers to the spikes as “the thagomizer… after the late Thag Simmons.”
