FACT OF THE DAY: A Japanese official, Masabumi Hosono, traveled on the Titanic and survived its sinking. Upon his return to Japan, Hosono was denounced in the press as dishonorable, and even received public calls to commit harakiri, until his death in 1939. A letter from Hosono to his wife is believed to be the only surviving piece of Titanic stationery.
