FACT OF THE DAY: In December 1995, NASA used the Hubble Space Telescope to photograph an apparently empty area of space that was only 2.5 arcminutes across, about one 24-millionth of the entire sky. The resulting image, now called the Hubble Deep Field, showed almost 3,000 galaxies.
