FACT OF THE DAY: The most expensive single item which sank with the Titanic was "La Circassienne au Bain,” an 1814 Neoclassical oil painting by Merry-Joseph Blondel. Its owner, Swedish businessman Mauritz Håkan Björnström-Steffansson, filed an insurance claim for $100,000 against the loss of the painting, the equivalent of about $2.4 million.
