FACT OF THE DAY: The British colonial badge for Turks & Caicos originally depicted piles of salt on the beach (since the tropical nation was involved in salt production). However in 1889, the artist who transferred the design to an official flag made a mistake, drawing doors onto what he thought were dwellings. As a result, from 1889 until 1968, the official flag for Turks & Caicos depicted igloos on the beach.
