FACT OF THE DAY: On July 5, 2011, a 39-story shopping mall tower in Seoul began shaking violently, prompting an evacuation. The cause of the tremor was a mystery at first, until it was discovered that a Tae Bo class in the mall’s gym had been dancing aggressively to the 1990 dance song “The Power,” which happened to coincide with the entire building’s resonance frequency. Researchers had another class of Tae Bo dancers replicate the dance moves, and again the building’s top floors vibrated noticeably. “The Power” was afterwards banned from the mall’s gym.
