FACT OF THE DAY: On January 15, 1919 in Boston, a 50-foot-tall storage tank containing up to 2.3 million gallons of molasses collapsed, unleashing a 25-foot-tall wave of molasses that expanded at 35 miles per hour and flooded several city blocks. The so-called Great Molasses Flood killed 21 people and injured 150.
