an idea: National Free Improv Day.
thoughts: Easy to implement, easy to advertise, hopefully not too hard to get other cities to go along with... similar efforts like free comic day a huge success.
discuss.

Take a look at the
Free Comic Day website.. That should give you some idea of what it would entail.
Basically, it's a way to achieve national advertising and promotion for something that translates to a local audience. Hey, Free Improv Day? Keen. Where can I see improv locally? A check of National Free Improv Day dot com reveals that improv is going on at the Hideout and Coldtowne Theater.
I bet we could get a decent number of groups across the nation to join us.

Yeah, there's a Free Yoga Day, too, which as far as I can tell is very successful.
I think there should be free improv one night a week anyway, but that's a different issue.

Champion idea. Let's do it. Let's discuss this soon. Another fun way to put Austin on the improv map.

Whoa! Forget all this free theatre talk. Someone wanna explain how the hell we sold out TNA 2 weeks out? What caused that?
And further more, if TNA is actually sold out already, there should be zero conflict if we put on a free show in the downstairs theatre. I'll be out of town, but someone should get on that!

Go there. THAT'S what I meant. TNA is the show being promoted by free night of theater. I apologize if my words were all funkily placed.

Ohhhh, ok.
So we were already on this shit. Awesome.
Brings up an interesting point, though. Just getting a free show listed on that site sold a show out 2 weeks in advance. Granted, we won't see any money from it, but we'll have a packed house. Hmm.
Actually..

I say we do both. Pick a thursday during the height of the slooowwww summer slump and promote it as free improv day.
*national promotion of improv specifically
*heightened awareness of the AIC within the national improv community
*local promotion of our particular improv.

Warning! Dream Land Post:
What if we heightened the nuts off of that and made it an event where every improv group in the world performed that day for free? Of course, it's not likely that it will all be on stage, but it can be on sidewalks, parks, bus stops, on the phone, whatever. The performances can be whatever just to promote the "World Improv Free Day."
If we started now I bet we could get a huge massive list of people/groups. And then even more people will be excited about the energy of Austin Improv.
