Everything you say or do on stage is not just an opportunity to figure out what the scene is about. It’s an invitation to play that you’re making to those around you. The more you own your voice, the clearer the invitation.

The Summer Lock-Up is five full days of intense exploration as the instructors of The Institution help unblock you of the worries that are keeping you from fully discovering your individual voice.

Along the way will also be performance, social and entertainment opportunities.

DAY 1 with ASAF RONEN
The first step in finding your voice is learning the difference between your instincts and fear, even though they sound very similar in your head. You’ll learn the skills that help you make confident moves that fulfill you rather than the panic moves that derail you.

DAY 2 with SARAH MARIE CURRY
Being in and heightening the moment pulls from a wide arsenal: physicality, staging, emotion and more. Pulling from theatrical influences like Ann Bogart’s Viewpoints, students will earn a better understanding of their inherent charisma and energy on stage.

DAY 3 with BRENTLY HEILBRON & TED MEREDITH
Using his vast 20+ years of experience as a stand-up, Brently Heilbron will take you through solo work, connecting and thriving, even though you’re the only one up there. Ted Meredith will then show you how to turn your tools into toys for richer scene work.

DAY 4 with CLIFTON HIGHFIELD
Improvising within a group means creating a shared energy and a shared voice. You will develop an ensemble with a balance the needs of the group while recognizing what you as an individual have to offer.

DAY 5 with TOM BOOKER
Wrapping up the week, The Institution’s Artistic Director will fine tune your improv work, keeping you to the active choices that keep our work vibrant and playful and find all the dimensions of playing with a scene.
