FACT OF THE DAY: In 1786 an American named John Ledyard proposed to walk, along with his two dogs, eastward from Moscow across all of Russia, then cross the Bering Sea on a fur-trade vessel and walk across America to Washington. With the support of Thomas Jefferson, Ledyard set out, only to be arrested in Siberia and returned to Poland.
