FACT OF THE DAY: Shortly before departing for Ford’s Theater on April 14, 1865, Abraham Lincoln told his bodyguard, William Crook, that he had been having dreams of being assassinated for three nights in a row. Crook encouraged him not to go, but Lincoln refused, saying “Goodbye, Crook” as he left. According to Crook, it was the only time Lincoln ever told him “goodbye” rather than “good night.”
