FACT OF THE DAY: Madame Tussaud (first name Marie) was arrested during the French Revolution, and had her head shaved in preparation for the guillotine before being spared. She was then made to create wax death masks from the disembodied heads of Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, Robespierre, and others. Many of these became part of her first exhibition of wax sculptures.
