A Penny Dreadful will run every Saturday in December at 6pm with the exception of Christmas Day, as well as the first Saturday in January (Jan 3rd).

"Just what is “a penny dreadful” you ask?

Penny dreadfuls (aka penny horribles or penny awfuls) were popularized in England in the early 1800s: serial publications featuring tales of the mysterious and the macabre – gothic thrillers printed on cheap paper that literally cost a penny.

This student main stage show takes its cues from tropes of such stories – mysterious castles, dark family secrets, evil criminals and their demented plans, hints of the supernatural – to weave an improvised tale that relishes big characters, dramatic suspense, and atmospheric sceneography (where the players will work together to bring the environment vividly alive).

For recognizable inspirations, think of the works of Edgar Allen Poe, the British Hammer Studios horror films of the 1960s, and let’s not forget the classic adventures of Scooby Doo and the gang."
