FACT OF THE DAY: During the 1939 war between the USSR and Finland, Russian General Vyacheslav Molotov falsely claimed that a new type of firebomb being deployed was meant to deliver food rations, not explosives. The Finns dubbed the bombs “Molotov’s bread baskets,” and when they later began using improvised explosives made from drink bottles against the Soviets, they dubbed them “Molotov’s cocktails.”
