When I stepped off the plane here two years ago, there were about 30 people I was immediately introduced to after a night of shows. I had come from a gig in Los Angeles that left me feeling hopeful but isolated.
In any city you can have raw talent and drive but still feel like you are swimming in an ocean. You need something else too. I read recently you can't turn a baby duck loose in the wild because the bigger ducks will try to kill it.
Los Angeles made me think strongly about the idea of communities. Tribes. Something very powerful happens when a person finds a group identity. It pushes you. It connects you.
I had met Chris and Tami in Austin. I helped put the walls up in the Lavaca space. I knew they planned to move back home to NOLA one day. I didn't like it but I also had never considered that I could stay with that sense of community by investing in the conservatory in a whole new city. New Orleans.
My journey started right here on these forums.
I've found alot of filmmakers, artists, and everyday people from all around NOLA are empowering themselves through the idea of being part of something bigger. More everyday people are becoming artists or filmmakers.
A community of storytellers lifts us all up.
We all know that feeling. I certainly felt it multiple times in Austin. First at the Institution, then at all the theaters. Communities strengthen the individuals who are a part of them.

This is where my TNM journey started. On the Austin improv forums. I knew next to nothing until I came here. So I'm excited to share the fact this is going on and I want you guys to visit and see the inroads we are making in Louisiana. Come take a look. Maybe you'll find yourself exploring New Orleans as a potential city to live in one day. Maybe you'll be job hunting here one day. Come visit for a weekend. Come visit Hell Yes Fest in November. Like first-time students taking an improv class with wide open eyes, come be a part of something bigger. This is happening.
