YOUR IMPROV SUPERPOWER: Identifying Your Strengths & Cherishing Them. Jill will help you identify just what makes you unique and take those amazing qualities and turn them into your superpower on stage. SUNDAY, AUGUST 24 Mark Bergren (AM) & Jake Scott (PM)
10AM-NOON
This class with Mark Bergren is entitled GO LONG, GO DEEP. When we reach an emotional tipping point in a scene more often than not our heads edit our heart and we bail out of the emotion. We objectify the subjective so we can be safe. Using our heart over our heads can be dangerous. But playing with the fire of our emotions can lead to the richest improvisation. We'll also touch on the theatrical benefit of playing the opposite of our beliefs.
Mark Bergren trained at Chicago’s famed Second City in Chicago. improvising with the likes of SC TV’s Catherine O’Hara and George Wendt of “Cheers” fame. After five years as a performer at the acclaimed The Brave New Workshop in Minneapolis, he became its artistic director and head writer, later a co-owner, and created over twenty original satirical comedy revues. Mark also developed “Acting Through Improvisation” workshops and directed over 100 custom corporate entertainment events.A consultant to Disney Entertainment, Mark accepted a full time position as Show Director and Writer – creative directing shows throughout Walt Disney World, and special events such as Walt Disney World’s Anniversary spot on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Now a consultant, speaker and writer, he also consults and produces for such companies as the Paris Las Vegas Resort, Kaiser Permanente Health Plan & Hospitals of California. Mark is co-author of the business and life skills book, “Improvise This! How to Think On Your Feet So You Don’t Fall On Your Face.”
1-4PM
Where do characters come from? In this CHARACTER BUILDING workshop with Jake Scott we'll practice creating characters who are fun to play and compelling to watch. Draw inspiration from a variety of sources and discover new roles for yourself.
