Experimental puppetry
I've been thinking a lot about puppetry lately. Really it's more like, I guess I'd call it body puppetry. Like masks and huge body transforming costumes. Think War horse, Lion King kind of stuff. Smaller stuff too. Is there anyone who knows much about that here or is currently using that kind of format for improv? I'd like to meet other people who are interested or have experience in that medium.

Re: Experimental puppetry
Yes and yes. I have always been into puppetry, especially since it's rarely done these days, and have always wanted to try it in an improv setting. I have done digital puppet work with Second Life for a live multimedia show and have worked with puppets on film projects.
Re: Experimental puppetry
I have not done much giant body puppetry but I've made lo-fi hand-puppets before out of paper and felt.

Keith Johnstone, improv guru for both the Hideout and Merlin Works, teaches a whole workshop about "trance masks." The Hideout had a trance mask workshop a year or two ago.

Sara Farr is absolutely a person you should talk to, as head lady of the Puppet Improv Project. Most of her stuff is typical puppet-sized stuff, but she's worked with big things as well.
