FACT OF THE DAY: Margarine is naturally white, and is dyed yellow to resemble butter. Upon protests by the butter industry in the 19th century, three states passed laws requiring it to be dyed pink, until the Supreme Court intervened. During World War II, it was sold au natural, with packets of yellow carotene for the buyer to mix in.
