Audition for Theatresports Mainstage show on 2/23.
Posted: February 16th, 2014, 7:57 pm
We're bringing Theatresports back to the Hideout in May and June, and we want YOU to be part of the show.
Lacy Shawn and Ryan Austin will be directing.
Auditions will be held on Sunday, February 23rd, from 3:30 to 7pm
Theatresports is the original improvisational theatre format invented by Keith Johnstone in the dawn of improv time to skirt the censors in merry old England and spread the virus of improv. Theatresports is currently played in over 20 countries around the world and over 30 cities in North America. The Hideout actually began its life in 1999 as Austin Theatresports.
Saturday nights at 8pm in May and June, the Austin Theatresports Tournament is taking over the MainStage slot the Hideout. Teams will go head to head, challenging each other to scenes and games and anything else that can happen on a stage. Each scene is scored by judges and at the end of the evening, a winner is declared.
Again, we're holding auditions on Sunday, February 23rd, from 3:30 to 7pm.

A little bit more about the direction we're taking the show:
Theatresports is at its best when the audience truly feels like ANYTHING might happen. We want to take the structure of the show and use it to free up the performers and audience to enter a place of pure play and exploration. The focus will be less on games and specific setups, and more on connectivity and awareness of what's happening RIGHT NOW (but there will also be games).
Ideally, we want a cast of 10 core cast members who are present for weekly rehearsals. We will then involve others in a more casual way.
If you have questions, feel free to contact me at roy@hideouttheatre.com.
