FACT OF THE DAY: One of the lesser-known provisions of the Endangered Species Act allows for endangered species to be named the lead plaintiffs in a lawsuit. Several such suits have been filed: for example Loggerhead Turtle v. Volusia County, Florida (2002), where the court ruled in favor of the turtles and ordered the county to pay the turtles’ attorney fees.
