Austin Improv

I enjoy watching their shows. Really really enjoy it. And the last few shows I've seen from them have been mind-blowing. I'm willing to blow off a popular new movie to watch a Get Up show.

In addition to good quality shows, they also contribute heavily to the community:

Shana is one of my favorite improv teachers ever. She's supportive, and creates a safe environment for students. She's thorough, give great notes, brims over with information, and is willing to help just about anybody. If you've never taken a workshop from Shana, I highly recommend it.

Shannon also produces Out of Bounds, which obviously, everyone here knows is awesome. One of the friendliest, funnest, golfiest improv festival around.

Did I mention I really like watching their shows?

This master improv troupe packs a ONE TWO punch that continually knocks me out. Their shows are an EPIC experience packed with action, adventure, romance, comedy, drama, thrills & high-powered, electric-blue chills that repeatedly blow my circuts. I am addicted and can't get enough!!!

Get Up has this amazing level of cinematic scope that's rare in improv-especially with the soundtrack on top of their show at OOB. They really exemplify the theory that the stage is infinte, in both its physical dimensions and its scope of possibility. Their character work is efortlessly distinct and enjoyable, and still has a realness to it. You can tell that they're both as excied about the story and the charaters in it as the audience is.

Get up.. to me is a cool James Bond car. Being that is has this sporty energy, its sophisticated, intelligent and can adapt to its situation (ie: turning into a submarine, if need be.) I've proved with Shana for nearly a decade now, and Shannon almost as long, and theres a confidence that I have in them, whether its watching them or sharing the stage with them.

They have a great balance about them. When one goes in the atmosphere, the other is to there to keep them grounded. They are able to build a world with so many different cranes... and they build it with a smile, energy, and yet with a calmness that is collectively cool and purposeful.

I am always proud to share a bill with them.

Get Up still holds a place in my memory for one of the funniest (meaning I laughed the HARDEST) improv shows I've ever seen.

Shannon was a high-school football coach who was obsessed with re-enacting the war for Texas Independence.

And Shana was a middle-aged woman intent on being a successful prostitute.

This show, in my mind, exemplified all of Get Up's best qualities: Wit, strong character relationships & brilliant spacework.

Get Up is extremely experienced and talented, and they show it all of the time.

Oh man. That is awesome. One of the reasons why I <3 Shannon.

Get Up does extremely engaging and insightful work. I really enjoy their dynamic as a duo.

Shannon and Shana were the first to welcome us to Austin, for that I will never forgive them.

I've been busy travelling and working and I've been off the boards for about a week or so. . . And look what I miss!

Thanks everybody for your kind words and support. It really means a lot to me. I spend 10-30 hours a week on improv and improv related things, so its nice to hear that it shows.

It's so nice to share my passion for 'prov with so many amazing people.
