Thursday, September 19th - 7pm to 10pm
OR
Thursday, October 10th - 7pm to 10pm
$40 / $30 for Institution Students

Improvisation provides an excellent background to stand-up comedy and vice-versa. It is not as different as one might think. The role of this workshop is to encourage improvisers confidence in their own unique artistic voice and try something new and exciting in a safe classroom environment. Your improv skills will only improve from a stab at stand-up and your mind and creativity will be stimulated. And that, is always a cool thing.

This one-off workshop is perfect for the improviser that has rarely or never done any stand-up at all. No pre-written material is necessary (this is for improvisers after all). This is the time to discover and strengthen your unique comedy voice and learn new skills that can only enhance your improv. If any of this terrifies and excites you, then this is the class for you. This is a safe, constructive environment and bottom line, is a lot of fun.

BRENTLY HEILBRON started performing improv in clubs at 14. Then at 15, he took the leap to stand-up, keeping up his improvisational chops with early Austin troupes like Monks Night Out and Only 90% Effective. He won the first ever Maestro show in Austin, which is now the longest running show Improv show in town.

He was voted Best Stand-Up in Austin by the Austin Chronicle and as a comedian and actor, he has opened for Paul McCartney, toured with Robert Schimmel and was hand-picked by Woody Allen to appear in the Los Angeles Opera production of GIANNI SCHICCHI. He also appeared on the Bravo improvised television series SIGNIFICANT OTHERS as well as FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS on NBC and THE LYING GAME on ABC Family. His verbatim performance of R. Kelly's Trapped in the Closet in its entirety brought attention from the Los Angeles Times and New York Times among others.

THEN YOU CAN CONTINUE THE PROCESS WITH 102 WHICH LEADS UP TO A STANDUP SHOWCASE:

Stand-Up 102 for Improvisers with Brently Heilbron
Pre-Requisite: You MUST have taken Stand-Up 101.
Thursdays, October 17th - November 7th, 7pm - 10pm
Four-week program with a performance showcase on Thursday, November 14th at 8pm
$150 / $120 for Institution Students

This is the next step to really develop the writing that will fit your individual voice. There is no rubber stamped style and everyone is unique. Learn techniques to kick start the writing process and avoid many common pitfalls of stand-up writing and delivery. The goal of this class is to develop a 5-10 minute stand-up set that is polished and ready to hit the stages of Austin and beyond.

I did this, and it changed my life in a way no other performance style ever had. Totally empowering. Brently's a sweetie poo-pie, as well. Thanks to him I'm doing open mics all over town.
