Austin Improv

Hey people,

I'm working on a project that is heavily influenced by Super Mega Art Show, Butt Kapinski and Kristin Firth's REVLIS.

I'm still feeling out some of the specifics, i.e. How I prefer to interact with the audience and what methods to utilize, which is a blast to experiment with, so I'm not hung up on that. My main question is how do troupes or individuals typically rehearse for this kind of thing? If the show is mostly audience interaction, is there even a way to rehearse? And if so, are there any coaches out there that specialize in this or have experience in this area?

There are still the skills to focus on, the character for your part of it. The story you might want to tell and what the beats are of that (like with Butt Kapinsky). And I have lots of experience helping people with their one person shows if you want to grab coffee, I can consult you through mapping some of that out and figuring out your rehearsals.

Joy, with Mike Nystul and Chico Carlucci did some audience stuff. You could ask them about what they learned too.

Yep, it's the StarBorn fringe show I did with Mia. I want to give it another go and see if there's still some magic there in it. I'm just at a loss with how to practice and develop that.

The first iteration was more Super Mega Art Show or Jorak and Jorak Do Movie, but I'd like to play with making it even MORE audience focused.

Hallelujah! I loved that show. And a reboot of it is long overdue. I don't know that I can help with the rehearsing question, but I'll be in the front row when it happens.

I have a refrigerator magnet of you in the costume, so hopefully this strikes it big and I can say "I had a fridge magnet before it was cool."
