44 Hour Improv Marathon

Post by Gloria »

With the official start of Summer just around the corner, the Hideout Theatre is kicking it off with an explosion of improv.

Beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 21,

Eight brave improvisers will begin performing and they will stay on the stage until 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 23. This epic three days of performance will raise money for the Hideout’s Youth Program. Each hour of the marathon will cost $5. An all-access Marathon pass is available for $44.

Tickets and more information are available at www.hideouttheatre.com. The Hideout Theatre is located at 617 Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78701.

Each hour of the marathon will be a separate show, featuring classic and upcoming Hideout formats, one-off shows never to be seen again, and guest troupes and players from Austin’s ever growing improv community. Some highlights included improvised Star Trek, Dickens, Shakespeare, musicals, a puppet show, film dubbing, and much much more.

Roy Janik, The Hideout's Artistic Director, says "This is the most insane event in the Hideout's calendar. But it's also one of the most inspiring. In addition to raising money for the youth program, the Marathon has also forged lasting friendships, inspired audience members to become improvisers, and given birth to several shows that are now Hideout staples. It's an intense, wild ride from start to finish."

I dunno if I've announced my intent on here or not, but I'm currently planning on trying to attend EVERY SINGLE SHOW OF THE MARATHON. I understand something similar was accomplished by a certain group of four last year, and I hope to recreate the triumph. Hopefully at least somebody else will be joining me? As a bonus, I will also be teching (at the very least) the last show, ensuring that 50% of the final show's tech will be every bit as sleepy as the people on stage!

WOO

I REALLY CANNOT HANDLE THE EXCITEMENT RIGHT NOW
