This summer the Hideout is embarking on a grand experiment with two Shakespeare plays in July and a run of improvised Shakespeare in August.

The Hideout has done an improvised Shakespeare show twice in the past, but this time we’re preparing ourselves with a three-week run of two scripted plays in repertory. Fifteen actor/improvisers will be cast to play roles in both Much Ado About Nothing and Macbeth July 5 through July 21 (alternating Thursday-Sunday) after which the cast will transition into a Friday/Saturday run of improvised Shakespeare (Fakespeare) on August 2,3,9,10,16,17,23,24. Both the plays and the improv show will be staged in the downstairs theater at the Hideout. Andy Crouch will be producing the overall shows and directing Much Ado; Jordan Maxwell will direct Macbeth.

Rehearsals for the plays (and the improv show) will begin in mid April and run up to the first week of July. Wednesdays are absolutely essential and other rehearsals will be scheduled as necessary; expect two or three rehearsals a week in May and June. There will be a few extra improv rehearsals on Wednesdays in July. The intensity of this rehearsal schedule and the commitment asked of the cast CANNOT BE EMPHASIZED ENOUGH.

Sign up for auditions here (space is limited): http://hideout.cc/fakespeare

***Please prepare around 20 lines of memorized monologue from any Shakespeare play.*** Other than that, come ready to have fun and mess around with some Shakespeare scripted and improvised. The goal of this audition is to give people an enjoyable experience and get the info we need to make casting decisions. We’re looking for a cast of 15 people who have experience with both improv and Shakespeare, but ANYONE can attend this audition.

The dual goal of this project is to immerse improvisers in an intense scripted acting experience in order to bring a higher degree of technique and professionalism to the run of improvised Shakespeare shows – and to bring the immediacy of improvisation and the collaborative process of improv to a scripted production.

If you have questions, feel free to contact Andy at acrouch@hideouttheatre.com.

The meaning of this part is a little unclear: Do you mean that you are willing to consider people who do not have experience with both?
The silver knives are flashing in the tired old cafe. A ghost climbs on the table in a bridal negligee. She says "My body is the life; my body is the way." I raise my arm against it all and I catch the bride's bouquet.

Yes, absolutely anyone can sign up and come to a Hideout audition and be considered for a part, but I think Andy is saying that having some experience with both improv and Shakespeare is ideal.
