Competition is good

Hello AIC,

This has some San Diego-specific things in it, but Austin is mentioned as a city where people can play at multiple theaters, and how awesome that is. The author might have heard that from a little birdie...

It echoes some of the ideas Jill laid out in her brilliant FB note.

Miss you. XOXO

Amen. I wouldn't even call it "competition"; when I hear someone is going to a different school than the one I teach at, I don't even feel the slightest twinge of jealousy. Why? Because I know that, if they keep at it, we'll play together some day anyway. The cross-pollination is basically my favorite thing about Austin improv (besides, of course, the improv itself).

Just tonight I had my first student showcase in 11 years at Coldtowne. It was refreshing to go back to basics, but much more importantly, it was amazing to hear a completely different school of thought. I'm a much better improviser than I would have been without hearing these different points of view.
