March Electives! This is your last chance to get hugs from Eric Heiberg, your best chance for some side support strategies from Kevin Miller, a download from Confidence Men Ceej and Fersty, and specific training on the elusive Naive Games (that honestly Austin is not representing with). Each two-hour class will cost $10 ($5 for currently enrolled Hideout students).

Check out the upcoming topics:

Wednesday, March 6, 7-9pm
There Will Be Hugs with Eric Heiberg
“I’ve got your back” embodies an ideal that we all want to embrace, but when the lights go up, many times we find that we lack the tools necessary to make this ideal a reality. This workshop with Eric Heiberg (who is moving to Minneapolis, so get him while you can!) is a full-on kamikaze mission of embracing and loving our partner’s gifts with all the compassion, vulnerability and honesty we can muster, turning their ideas into fully-realized characters that spark genuine interest. Also, there will be hugs. Bring your joy with you.

Wednesday, March 13, 7-9pm
Side Support Like a Boss with Kevin Miller
The bench is one of the most powerful places to be in an improv show. With the right entrance, line or even sound effect, you can help the scene turn into something awesome. Alternately, if you passively watch, you can leave your fellow improvisers hung out to dry. Kevin Miller (Merlin Works instructor) will teach you how to hone your instinct for an offer from the sidelines - know when to join the scene, when to stay off and how to seamlessly become part of the show.

Wednesday, March 20, 7-9pm
Once More, With Confidence with Chris Allen and Michael Ferstenfeld
Ever feel like, I don’t know…that you don’t know what to say in a scene? Or how to make a scene, how to make it, you know, come to life? And then stay alive? Ceej and Ferst (Chris Allen and Mike Ferstenfeld) are here to help. Four years in award-winning, nationally touring improv troupe Confidence Men have helped them focus their unique talents for the stage into an ethos, and for one night only – this night, March 20th – they will show you the goods. The tricks of the trade, the con of the century, the big lie! How to use your own voice with confidence. You know more than you think you do. You do. There are characters inside of you. And these guys, they just want to show you how to access that stuff in a scene and share it with everybody. They’ll give you an easy access utility-belt of tried and true exercises from the pros that’ll make your improv pop, sizzle and ratatat in no time! Check your fears and censors at the door and let the dialogue fly! Only $99,999.

Wednesday, March 27, 7-9pm
Naive Games with Quinn Buckner
When is the last time you saw a good naive game played? Probably not lately because they’re among the more difficult of games that require extra practice, so they don’t usually get thrown into shows. Quinn Buckner of Rhinodino (a troupe focusing on short form and specializing on naive games) will give you a breakdown of popular naive games (Party Quirks, Three Things, Blind Date, etc.). You’ll get some tips and tricks on skills like spacework, gibberish, listening/observing and learning to be calm in situations where you may not be able to directly talk to your partners.
