FACT OF THE DAY: On May 31, 1880, a boat carrying Sunandha Kumariratana, one of the queens of Thailand, capsized while en route to the summer palace. Despite the presence of many onlookers, they were forbidden on pain of death to touch the queen—not even to save her life. The queen and her daughter both drowned.
