I'm about to nerd out here, folks.
I'll make a more in-depth post about this soon but I've been helping a friend who has been single-handedly designing a web-based video game inspired by these two games.
He's about two years into development and it's looking solid.
You don't have to wait for other players to make their move. It's not one of those games. Every hour you get new tiles and build up your empire. Eventually you place roads, buildings, bridges, resources. Then more! I got so addicted-- fair warning.
You don't have to be a fan of The Settlers of Catan or Carcassone to get involved.
Aubrey will be looking for about 50 beta testers soon. This is super casual, you can just poke around and never come back if you want.
But for now it's locked up nice n' tight.
I'm going to have Aubrey check back here when he's closer to launch date. Anybody interested in this limited Beta Test?

I just pulled up my other tab and took a screenshot. This gives you an idea.
(It's messy because I chose to put all my mountains in one place. mtns are the only tile that can be placed ANYWHERE.)

Water tiles are much more orderly and must be placed next to water or transition tiles, see?

And THIS is how you build the edges of your map! The actual tile placement is my favorite part.

Tiles can be rotated and placed to your tastes.

Hey PyroDan (and anyone else that might be interested)!
I will be starting up a new game of Tile Empires soon. If you are interested in giving it a try, you can sign up using this nifty google form.
Also, I just started posting info and updates about the game on the Tile Empires Dev Blog. So you can check that out for more details if interested.
