FACT OF THE DAY: During the Battle of Shiloh in the Civil War, some soldiers discovered that their festering wounds glowed faintly in the dark. Modern research has shown that the soldiers were infected by a bioluminescent bacterium that kills other bacteria and actually helped the soldiers to heal faster.
