Where are we camping? Guadalupe River State Park. It's north of San Antonio, west of Gruene/New Braunfels, and less than two hours from Austin.
What kind of camping? Tents and stuff. No climate-controlled cabin bullshit.
In the wilderness? Nah, we'll camp right near the cars. You can even sleep IN the car if you want. There are restrooms and water nearby.
When are we leaving? Heading out ~2:00 pm on Friday. Since it'll be after Daylight Savings Time, we'll need to leave relatively early if we want to get set up before dark. If anybody has to work until 5, then a second carpool will head out on Friday evening, but no later than 7:00 (see below).
When are we coming back? Sunday morning. The AIC potluck is Sunday evening, but you'll be back home in plenty of time to assemble your dish.
What about the F1 race? Yeah we'll be skipping that. Sorry gearheads.
But I have a show! If you have a Friday or Saturday show that you have to make, then we'll arrange some back-and-forth carpooling during the day on Saturday. Warning: do NOT drive down AFTER a show. The camp gates are locked each night at 10pm.
What should I bring? Hey, I'm not your Scoutmaster. But a good start would be:
• Tent, sleeping bag, and sleeping pad
• Comfy warm clothes, like fleece and whatnot
• Hiking boots
• Bug spray, toothbrush, deodorant, etc.
What will we eat? Sam Schak is coordinating communal meals for Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday morning. Contact her if you would like to help plan or have dietary restrictions.
How much does it cost? The campsites are $84 total, which we'll split amongst the group (about five bucks each). Plus there's a $7 entry fee per person per night ($14 per person if you're staying both nights). Plus Sam will be buying communal groceries for the afore-mentioned communal meals. So it'll be about $20 for the camping, plus $20-25 for the meals. You might give your carpool driver a couple bucks for gas. I think that's it.
What will we do? There will be campfires. There will be improv games. There will be hiking. There will be Capture The Flag. There might be a Saturday-afternoon trip to Gruene for early dinner.
I need to borrow something! I'll set up a Google Doc for that, and for the other administrative stuff described above.
Who's coming? I'll set up a Facebook group for that. We have an upper limit of 24 people.
