The Bad Movies thread had some instances of people walking out of movies not because they were bad per se, but because the viewer was too young for the content.

Everybody has movies in their past that they saw at way too young and impressionable an age. What were yours?

Here's my leading example. My dad took me to this movie WHEN I WAS FIVE! The Seventies really were a different era.

I was talking to Beeler about this the other day when we saw it at The Paramount. I can't decide if I saw A Clockwork Orange a little too early (I think I was 15 or 16?) or if I happened to see it at exactly the right time. I think I can pinpoint that film as the first film/media I saw that really made me aware that I was watching something that was more than just entertaining. I was already skewing towards being inspired by dark and anti-hero stories, so seeing that film either gave me a nudge over the edge, or completely re-wired my brain (yes, I know...)

Either way, it played a big part in forming aspects of my adult personality and interests.

I saw Poison Ivy at a neighbor's house when I was like 11 or 12. That was a very strange experience.

I saw Labyrinth when I was 6 or 7 and David Bowie scared me. I always associate big, blonde poofy hair with terror.

I was 15 when my Parents went away for the weekend and forgot to use the parental control on the cable box. Got to see Caligula for the first time and realized that some filmmakers are sick bastards.

My mom was never big on policing the R rating.

My brother and I would go into video stores and pick the craziest shit with her approval. Poltergeist, Alive!, & Warlock stand out as vivid memories watching as a child.


She also OK'd me to see Motley Crue in concert when I was five. Girls Girls Girls tour with Guns N' Roses opening. I have no earthly idea.

i'm sure i saw plenty of age inappropriate things when i was younger...but i had no idea if they were. it took me a long time to be into horror movies, but other than that we're big movie buffs in my family so we'd just go see everything. if anything was too intense, i'd just hide, but i think Ghostbusters at age 4 was the only one i did that with (and a few years later it was one of my favorites, so there ya go). i remember seeing Pulp Fiction in the theatre when i was 11 with my mom...but i thought that was pretty fucking cool of her.

My parents took me to see The Exorcist when I was 4. I still can't look at a picture of Linda Blair in that make-up. I tried to watch it again when I was about 23 and still had to close my eyes at certain parts. THANKS MOM AND DAD!

My 5 year old sister and I snuck in to see Showgirls. I think I was like 14. It was horrible. We got kicked out halfway through, then yelled at by the movie worker. He told us, if we were going to sneak into a movie, at least make sure it was a good one. All I remember telling him was I really just wanted to see boobs.

We saw the hippy musical "Hair" at the theater for a kid's birthday party I attended. I assumed it was going to be a cartoon called "Hare." I was wrong. I only remember a scene where a guy pissed in a cowboy boot or something? It's all a blur.

My dad rented Beaches for me when I was probably in third grade- not terribly inappropriate, but a funny choice to give to a little girl to watch alone on her weekend visitation.

I also saw The Rocky Horror Picture Show around the same time at his house. I didn't know why the man in the wheelchair was wearing fishnets, but it creeped me out.

My aunt took her grandchildren (maybe 4 or 5 years old) to see Jurassic Park. Because, you know, kids love dinosaurs.

I saw Alien at 4.

I don't think I got a full night's sleep again until I was 10.

My parents were big fans of Kurosawa since before I could read so they would make up what was going on. I recall still enjoying it.
