To my shame, I have let my karaoke chops get rusty over the last year and a half or so. Recently, I found myself at DK Sushi Bar on a Thursday night which, as it turns out, is karaoke night! I'd forgotten how much I missed making an ass of myself in front of a bunch of strangers (wait, what?).
Anyhoo, having spent way too much of the last year and a half *not* investigating karaoke bars, where do people like to go to get their drunken Sir Mix-a-lot fix and why?
Karaoke

Oh man, I LOVE karaoke! Here are my suggestions for karaoke...
Best "Dive Bar" Karaoke: Ego's - Go on a night that "Diamond Karaoke" is hosting. They have the best selection and sound setup. You can view their schedule at http://www.diamondkaraoke.com/calendar.html. It can get really crowded later in the night, so if you want to sing a few times and not have to wait a billion years, get there early. Cheap drinks...rowdy crowd...good times.
Best "Private Room" Karaoke: Highball - The Highball has the best selection of songs. All of them are in English and almost all of the tracks use real instruments as opposed to the "Muzak" version of the songs. It can be a little pricey, so going with someone who works for the Alamo or going during Happy Hour can make it more affordable.
Best "Karaoke No Longer Available": Karaoke Apocalypse - This was Punk/Metal karaoke with a live band. Sadly, they broke up and no longer play. *Sniff*...it was my favorite. I've heard that Baby Acapulco's has live band karaoke sometimes but I've never been I'd love to try it out sometime.
Best "Karaoke for Large Groups": Common Interest - Normally I don't really like this place. I've always called it "Karaoke for Tourists". However, they do have ample seating available for large groups. Also, they do "Karaoke Roulette" on Sunday nights. You spin the "Genre Wheel"...it lands on a genre and the KJ chooses a song for you. You have to sing it then and there, ready or not.

I live literally next door to DK Sushi, so count me in!
(assuming you mean the North Lamar location. I guess there are two.)

The silver knives are flashing in the tired old cafe. A ghost climbs on the table in a bridal negligee. She says "My body is the life; my body is the way." I raise my arm against it all and I catch the bride's bouquet.
