Dougherty about to close w/o plans to open alternate

Dougherty Arts Center has provided free private rehearsal space for imps and other art forms, as well as running children's art programs, and art galleries for many years. Now it seems, it's on it's last legs. The city is trying to close it, and has no plans to rebuild, or open another facility which would replace it.
I am offering an appeal to all improvisers, and anyone that enjoys performing. Take 2 minutes out of your day and sign the petition, and like the FB link. We may not carry enough weight to stop the demolition but just maybe we can motivate the city to rescuing this little gem.

Thanks for sharing this information. The DAC has been instrumental to me in holding auditions for plays and film projects, in rehearsing and auditioning for improv shows, and last year the PIP did our show there, and it was a great venue to perform at. I'm sorry to hear about this and hope that something can be worked out.

ACK! what? this is boloney. DAC is awesome. austin should have a public facility for multi-disciplinary arts. i'm thoroughly annoyed by this.

Yes! Thank you!! The affordability of the city funded DAC has given the PIP to opportunity to produce shows on our own -- outside a producing improv theater.
I've signed the petition. I hope all who read this do as well.

Done.
And PM sent to Michelle Denny to change that egregious spelling error. I know we're artists/actors/musicians et al, but "...loose our programs..."?
Yes, I am that OCD and dick-ish about language usage/syntax & spelling; especially when trying to present an argument in a professional context.

Austin needs a NEW public facility for multi-disciplinary arts! The existing DAC is an architectural dinosaur that needs to be leveled. Dysfunctional plumbing,
window A/C units, leaky roof, a performance stage so deep it swallows sound and cannot be properly lit, woefully inadequate parking... It would be cheaper to build a
good community space.

Yes. I think the major concern is that it will be demolished with no firm plans to build a replacement.

Signed.
With the following message attached:
"Dougherty Arts Center has been a wonderful resource to artists of ALL disciplines. It is hard to find decent space with which to run rehearsals, auditions, or performances. A city that is so heavily built on the arts needs an entity like DAC."
