3 TJ Jagodowski quotes you may not have heard

Post by JoshYellow »

I transcribed somethings that TJ said in an interview on the podcast, Improv Nerd. Thought you might find them valuable.

‎"You can't really talk yourself to clarity. You usually have to quiet yourself to clarity. Because when you try and talk yourself to the next thing you know about each other, it sounds like you're searching for that thing. If you're quiet and just let what already happened soak in a little bit or you just look around the room or you look at your partner, then they're going to give you what the next thing is or the room will give you what the next thing is. But as soon as a move is made, it's almost like dominoes just start falling because now these other things have to be true."

"It's not okay to day a off. You don't take a show off. As long as everyone is going to be there you may as well try your best to make it awesome. That's what you're shooting for, to have it be great. "

TJ reciting something that Dave Pasquesi says:
"Shoot for a goal, you're always going to come up short. But if you shoot for it to be great, you might funny or interesting or curious or something along the way. If you shoot for it to be funny, and you come up short, you only hit shitty, really shitty, awful, you know, uninteresting. And, so there's no reason we can't do just a couple of the things we say improv is about is to listen, to be honest and react honestly, to pay attention. Those things, and I know when was I first starting to improvise I used to think like, well who knows how this scene is going to go, like well just go see. Almost like that it wasn't under our control to give ourselves the best possible chance to have it go well. But knowing that you can flip a switch that says, personally, that I'm going to pay attention, I'm going to listen and I'm going to be honest and react honestly, it usually leads to at least a pretty good scene. And now that that floor is there then you can find out how good it can be."
