Workshop Announcement for the Improvised Play Festival

Post by Roy Janik »

Announcing the workshops for The Improvised Play Festival. Each member of Improv Playhouse is teaching a workshop.

The workshops are Saturday. Apr 14th, from 1:00pm-4:00pm. YES, they are all at the same time. Sorry about that. You'll just have to choose. I haven't made up my mind yet. I love Tim Orr, and he's been a huge influence on me, but I'm more intrigued by Lisa's workshop description.

Have a look for yourself.

Jump In! with Tim Orr
This workshop applies to both short and long-form improv. How do you jump into a scene, bringing your partners along for the ride, at any point -- beginning, middle, or end? Do you start scenes by saying "goodbye" or leaving? Mid-sentence? In the middle of a murder, making love? Leaving someone alone on stage? And who is the scene about -- the person who is left, or the one who is leaving, maybe both? Expand your imagination and your ability to translate your vision to immediate and dynamic improv action!

Starting the Story with Lisa Rowland
This workshop will explore the most compelling moments of a long-form improvisation: the first ones. At the beginning of a story, the characters must fully inhabit the world that the improvisors are creating in the moment. Explore the creation of a rich world and the process of creating a multi-dimensional environment that will make for a more truthful and engaging story all the way through.

Keeping It Simple with Regina Saisi
Pay attention to your scene partner because the two of you are about to create magic. After a show ever find yourself regretting missing the moment? This workshop will focus on making your partner the most valuable asset you have and vice versa.

Andy just wrote a blog post about how the Hideout owes a lot of its style and sensibilities to BATs, where Improv Playhouse comes from:
