"Standardized tests can't measure initiative, creativity, imagination, conceptual thinking, curiosity, effort, irony, judgment, commitment, nuance, good will, ethical reflection, or a host of other valuable dispositions and attributes. What they can measure and count are isolated skills, specific facts and function, content knowledge, the least interesting and least significant aspects of learning." - Bill Ayers
There are so many ways to educate a child and I find that today's focus is on examining the minute details of the comprehensive whole. Whether we discuss English, science, the arts -- or any subject. We draw such a strict focus on memorization of facts & rules rather than comprehension of the overall why. Different methods could free up children's minds for abstract thinking within the given subject. Or allow the instructor to facilitate the child's individual needs -- as occurred in that wonderful dance story.
I saw this guy's other video from a few years back too, and loved every minute of it.
