allow myself to introduce myself

Hello Austin Improv Forum people!

I am Chris Nicholas. I met some of you the other night at the Imrpov Happy Hour. It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed meeting with and talking to everyone.

I am a grad of The New Movement, and was in the second graduating class there. I (infrequently) perform in a TNM house troupe called Ripken, and we do the Bat.

Had to step away from improv for a little while as I am super-busy organizing an indie comic book convention called STAPLE!, which is coming up the first weekend of March, and trying to finish my own self-published comic That Damned Cat, in time for the show.

After that's done I hope to back into it, and get out to see some stuff at the other theaters too!

Cheers!
- Chris

Good to see you on the boards, Chris!

For those who don't know him, Chris is super rad guy and STAPLE! is awesome. It's kind of the OoB of Austin's comics scene, and a huge pillar in the local comics community.

aw, thanks Shannon! Oob of comics books - apt! i like it.

if folks are interested in STAPLE! i'm happy to answer questions. i also encourage everyone to check out the facebook page "stapleaustin" and website "staple-austindotorg"

i actually got into improv from the connections i made through STAPLE! at the 2009 show. this one coming up March 3 & 4 will be the eighth annual.

gonna have one of the creators of the Ninja Turtles there, Master Pancake, Intergalactic Nemesis, Int'l Academy of Web Television, Kagan McLeod, a panel of 3 "Women of Webcomics", and the creators of 6th Gun, a very up-and-coming indie title.

i am kind of in hardcore promo-mode (promode? alamode?) right now so i will tend to go on and on about it. fair warning ;)

i will do a big STAPLE! mega-post in a more appropriate sub-forum, for those who are interested in more info.

Chris Nicholas is a really awesome person. He's really nice and friendly. Whenever I see Chris I always make a point to try and say hello and chat for a minute. Plus Staple is a cool event. Glad to see you on the forum.

aw, thanks Patrick. it's totally mutual, i assure you.

and Jordan, I've also been enjoying Sixth Gun quite a bit. we were fortunate to have Brian Hurtt, the artist on it, draw our Staplegator for this year. I liked it a lot! Those guys' previous book, The Damned, was picked up by Showtime to develop for a mini-series. I haven't read that one yet, but I'd like to.

i've only gotten to read the first volume so far, but i loved it. and Hurtt worked with my friends Nunzio and Christina on Skinwalker and Three Strikes, so i've been a fan of his for a while. it's my first exposure to Cullen Bunn's work, though (outside of the nicely macabre EC-esque Bride of Nine Spiders issue he did for the Immortal Weapons mini-series). definitely curious to try more. :)

oooh, yeah, i remember Skinwalker - that was a good book! 2nd vol of 6G is at least as good as the first, imo. Not sure if i read Three Strikees - will keep an eye out for it.

Hi Sam! Really nice meeting you as well. I will be sure and let everyone know next time we do a Bat, though, if you attend, you still will not see it. hardy-har-har.
