Camcorder Advice Needed!

Post by SarahMarie »

Hey Imps!

I'm shopping for a camcorder, as it's becoming something I often think "I really need" for recording shows, audition submissions, and other artistry pursuits.

Can you recommend an easy to use/edit camcorder for this non-savvy lady? Something I could use to make and edit audition videos and also upload delightful cat videos to youtube? I hear the flip is quite nice and common. Is this true?

What do you use? Why?

THANK YOU I LOVE YOU!

My troupe just bought a Vado and it seems great so far: small, simple, HD, works well in the theater. We got a killer deal on a blue one from Amazon on sale for $70.

There are surely better cameras, but for the price it's great.

I love the Flip but it is not good for stuff onstage or festival submissions because it washes out and has no way to adjust.

Also the company that bought it may be cutting tech support to it.

Alex, do you have any videos from your Vado you wouldn't mind me checking out? I'm thinking of upgrading from my Flip for the reasons Jill mentioned.

"Crap Technology" is old technology that still works well. Check out EBAY and find something professional with a BIG LENS. That's the best for low light situations.

The most recent Oh Sci show linked from our Facebook page was recorded with it. The resolution is compressed, however, thanks to Vimeo upload limits.

The other shows on our Vimeo were recorded with a new Canon hand-held point and click camera. The Vado looks better, but it should, since it's a dedicated camcorder.

That IS a shiny camera!

And a super Oh Science! show!

See, I had heard that the flip was crapping out, but I couldn't remember why...

There are other things about the Flip - the USB hookup into your computer is flimsy like they want you to bust it.

Also one time it froze and never never never unfroze again. I fixed it by buying a new one..wait that's not fixing.
