Audition for PROCESS, the Hideout's March/April Mainstage

Audition for…
PROCESS
Directed by Jeremy Lamb (Available Cupholders, Out of Bounds)

WHAT: Process is a narrative longform structure that gives the audience the opportunity to peek in on the creative process of producing a play, each portion being spoofed through several stages:
- Auditions
- Table read
- Rehearsal
- Opening Night
Of course it's all improvised, and each improviser has essentially two characters in the show; that of the actor they're playing and the character the actor is playing in the play.

"I know who I am. I'm a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude."

Much like Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense concert film, the show gets built as it goes along, realizing its own full potential by the end. Every aspect of producing the play is visible and improvised in the moment; the writing, rehearsing, acting, directing, lighting, audio, costumes, set design.

WHO: We are casting all types, ages, backgrounds, and experience levels so we encourage anyone to audition.

We are especially looking for improviser/actors familiar with the scripted theatre process, whether that experience is in the form of acting, directing, costumes, props, stage managing, etc. This format draws a lot of inspiration from the scripted world and a basic knowledge of that will help a lot.

Each show will have roughly this cast: a director, 3-5 actors, a stage manager, and 2 stage hands. Every one of these varied parts will play an integral role in the success of the show and people will cast will be playing nearly every role on a rotating basis.

WHEN and WHERE: Auditions will be in 30-minute sections 7-10ish on Wednesday, January 4th at The Hideout.
Please bring a resume but don't worry about a headshot.

You are required to email ahead to sign up for a time slot and there is a limited number of time slots available. Include your name, phone number, and let us know when you will not be available that evening or if you are open the whole night. Email Jeremy ( cupholders AT gmail ) to sign up or to ask any questions you might have.

COMMITMENT: Rehearsals will be at the Hideout, 7-10pm every Wednesday in January, February, and March. The show will run every Saturday in March and April at 8pm and not every cast member will be cast in every show.

We are also looking for a dedicated costume designer to add to the cast, who does not need to have any improv experience. So maybe that's you, or maybe you can recommend someone...

Lamb won't talk himself up, but he's kind of a big deal.

I'm insanely excited that he's FINALLY moving back to Austin, and that he's diving head-first into directing a show as soon as he gets back.

PROCESS (aka the Play Format) is a super fun format. Bill Stern did a super successful run in Chicago, Lamb did a run in New York, The Cupholders recently did it in Sarasota...

It combines narrative with the playfulness of games and the deep relationships of a monoscene. How's that for nerding out?

if i can do a personal pitch for a moment...Jeremy is one of the smartest and funniest improvisors in the world. he was my first improv director and teacher, the guy who got me hooked on improv, who showed me that improv could be more than games and gags and you could actually tell a story, have a relationship, make art, make theatre, make something beautiful, make something challenging, make something messy...and have a blast fucking around with your friends onstage at the same time.

also, he's functionally illiterate. :P

this is also a fantastically fun and challenging format. anyone who loves improv theatre should come try out. :)

<bouncing excitedly>
The silver knives are flashing in the tired old cafe. A ghost climbs on the table in a bridal negligee. She says "My body is the life; my body is the way." I raise my arm against it all and I catch the bride's bouquet.

oooh - I would love to audition for this one, but I'm already cast in a play that's running the first 3 weekends in February!

I do want to sign up for an audition, but for those of us who don't have your email address Jeremy, things like "Jeremy ( cupholders AT gmail )" just doesn't help much. Is there a "dot" somewhere in it? Is it a .com? a .net? knowing you it could even be a .xxx. Help us out buddy!
