My friend who owns the Violet Crown Social Club on E. 6th is looking to start a trivia night on Wednesdays (I think). I know some folks host trivia nights, but I can't remember who. Feel like expanding your business or know someone else who is expanding? PM me or email me at iguanaz at att dot net...

I've been wanting to get into trivia hosting for awhile now… any interest in a noob host? I have a radio-announcer voice, am a complete nerd, and am a bear wearing human skin.

Brad Temple hosts "Geeks Who Drink" on Tuesdays at 6th Street Opal's. I'm not sure if he's got his own equipment or what though.

Geeks Who Drink is a company that hosts several quizzes in town and around the country. They started out in Denver, but Austin's become their biggest home away from home. Dav Wallace also hosts a quiz for us (Nomad on Thursday nights). It's fun and obviously costs more to hire us than to do the quiz in-house, but the advantages are numerous. We have dedicated writers (our head writer/editor is currently competing in the Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions), tons of content, and a proven format that works after several years of tweaking it. Plus, enough people trust our brand name that we've got a bit of a fan base here that visits our various venues. Our quiz at the Highball is so popular they've added a second night. Check us out sometime. Check out the competition as well, if you feel so inclined.
It's also worth mentioning that Geeks Who Drink's big annual tournament, Geek Bowl, will be held in Austin on January 28th at Austin Music Hall. If you're serious about team-based pub quizzes, you could go home with a huge cash prize. Last year we had 160 teams and the top team went home with a check for $4000 (2nd was $2000, 3rd was $1000).
