Austin Improv

Well, the saga of my life at this apartment is coming to an end. The building was purchased a couple months ago, and the new landlords have decided to take it in a new direction, which includes replacing the floors and fixtures, new appliances, and oh yeah, a rent hike to $950 (from $675). I admit that my rent was artificially low since I'd been here so long, but come on. I'm willing to pay more, I'm just not willing to pay more for this place.

So they've offered us remaining tenants a deal -- they'll pay me to move out. So I plan to do so at the end of this month.

Which means I need to find a new place. Here are my requirements:

- 1 or 2 bedroom
- Rent under $900
- Small complex only, no mega-complexes
- Central Austin, between Ben White and 183 and between MoPac and Airport
- Real windows, no more of this half-height wide window crap. Something I can put actual curtains on.
- Wood floors would be nice

I'm not going to find such a place on Craigslist, it seems, that site having been overrun by apartment locating services. So I'm turning to you, my network of improv friends, for help! If you know of a suitable place, available starting this month or the beginning of next, let me know!

it's south - but all my those things are met at my apartment complex. 3508 south first street.

I guess it's got to have a fairly big living room, too. I've got a full-size sofa and a loveseat.

Kingston (?) apartments at North Loop/Burnet. No idea what they charge now, but they were reasonable years ago. Buseman lives there now... ask him!

Brad, what Ruby said. Her complex is my complex and it's rad. You can get a 2-bedroom for less than $900. 1-bedroom apartments are below $700. And you've seen what my apartment is like. (Part of it at least. Ask nicely and I may even show you the bedroom, you dirty boy!)

Brad: I lived there in 2006, and John Buseman and Christine Giordano live there now. I had a 2BR/1BA. It was very big for just me. I had an erstwhile roomie, who was never there. A one-bedroom would certainly suffice for a single person. There was one plumbing issue, which they resolved quickly.

My boyfriend subletted at Kennsington for a bit. It seemed like a good complex. Not noisy or anything. It was a little but annoying to make your way over to 35 from there compared to a lot of other places in town. That's the only drawback I can think of, but if you don't need to take 35 to work or anything it probably wouldn't be a big deal.

Come be our neighbor already.
