November 1 Mix Exchange: Gratitude/Indulgence

From Ryan Hill's suggestions of Guilty Pleasures and Gratitude. I think both are fitting for the Thanksgiving season. I'm grateful to be able to indulge in the musical equivalent of an HEB pumpkin pie with Cool Whip on top. Lay out your musical feasts, friends! And take all, some, or none of the theme to guide your mixes. Post 'em here with the date of November 1 roughly in mind.

So it's guilty pleasures AND gratitude?

As long as you don't make me do a clothes shopping demon voice I'm game. :-)

Alright, you lucky dogs. I have finished my "Guilty Pleasures" playlist.

Now, bear in mind that I ran a novelty music radio show called Nummy Muffin Cocoa Butter for like 7 years. It's hard for me to feel 'guilty' about listening to anything. One of my favorite songs ever is called "Frozen Embryos" by "Three Guys from Hollywood".

My point is, it was a pretty interesting/hard exercise to figure what I liked that I'd be slightly embarrassed by.

On the theme of indulgence and guilty pleasures, not quite in the same way most people would mean it, I think, but here is my mix of super-indulgent music- to me it's the audio equivalent of a warm bath in the dark on heroin.

Well, I started in on the "guilty pleasures" theme, but hit a snag. Either I don't feel sufficiently guilty about the things I like, or perhaps I don't take sufficient pleasure in them. Either way, it wasn't working.

So, instead, I offer up Unknown Pleasures*. These are some tracks from bands that I feel have been woefully underexposed. Great stuff from obscure artists. Enjoy.

*And no, there aren't any Joy Division tracks here.

Okay, here's one. This is basically all late high school and college music. I couldn't find the right version of "Injected With A Poison" on Spotify, so L.A. Style had to do.

Ok, I made an actual guilty pleasures mix, because I felt guilty. Here it is:

In the spirit of improv, this has not been polished. It's from my gut.

Songs about gratitude and cheesy pop songs that I like a lot and am a little embarrassed that I like. And some are both... :-)

I love seeing the directions people's guilty pleasures tend towards. Like they reveal our true natures....

Frightening and probably accurate. I'm looking through my list again...

These are the songs that fall under "I'm a little embarrassed I like these":

We Belong
Red Barchetta (I was a huge Rush fan as a teen and it lingers)
Since You Been Gone
Together in Electric Dreams
Hold Me Now
How Could You Want Him
Kiss Me
Torn

Everything else I think I can own completely. :-)
