I wish this place had a Chatroom

Post by bootyfofree »

Dude, if this place had a chatroom. I could just get on and talk to whoever is online at the time. Cause work sucks. And I have some sweet free time on days like today.

Holy shit that is an amazing (and probably productivity-killing) idea. How hard would it be to actually pull that off?

Tech people, what say you?

Oh it's easy as hell to make an IRC room, I hang out in one at work all day as it is (on SynIRC if you need a stable server). I'd have to remember the commands to set ops for other people as I probably wouldn't be in it outside of work.

Wishful thinking someone who's online all the time makes their computer the main bot/host for the channel, since IRC requires ridiculously little energy and power to run, it was created in the dialup era after all.

Yeah we just agree on an IRC name #AIC and a host and off we go.

Is there any way to actually make it part of this forum site though? A Wordpress chat add on or something like that? Where you can see who's on the forums and invite them to private chat or join a larger chat room with anyone who opts in, and every time you're on this forum site you can see who's in the chat room?

Yeah, I was gonna say. Make an AIC Forum group or whatever, everyone joins, and boom, group chat. Easy.

I guess the "Chat" link at the top of the page doesn't go to anything functional any more....

There are definite phpBB add-ons that give some chat room functionality. If Roy has backend access, maybe he can play around with a few?
