Austin Improv

Many of you have met me since I've been stalking the Austin improv community for several months now. I've done some acting and some things leaning in the direction of improv.

After watching about ten hours of the marathon at the Hideout back in June, my muse informed me that I was going to have to start doing this shit or she was going to make me very unhappy. I know better than to ignore or argue with my muse. Bitch.

(I'm ENTHRALLED with improv and loving learning it.)

Anyway, I just started Level 2 at the Hideout with Andy Crouch and a bunch of great people from Level 1. Been working on basic improvy type stuff and just getting comfortable getting out there.

You guys seem to be a really great community and I'm really happy to be able to be a part of it.

Ryan is good people and the tip of the zen community that I'm pretty sure is going to start overlapping the improv community in the coming months and years.

Judging by the rate at which it's already been happening in the last couple months, I'd say that we likely have a big overlap on the way.

My sangha, Plum Blossom, in the lineage of Thich Nhat Hanh, meets every Sunday night at 6:00 at East Side Yoga for an hour of meditation and and hour of dharma discussion.

I recently facilitated an hour of playing improv games with Plum Blossom as a form of dharma discussion. They loved it. The dharma and improv are both fingers pointing at the same moon.

Ryan is wonderful! I've had many fulfilling and interesting conversations with him. Quite passionate, this one. :)


(Also, as promised, I will be at Plum Blossom the first Sunday after my Level Five shows wrap. I'm so excited!)

Good to meet you too, Nancy. You were on stage for my very first improvisation in front of a real audience. (Besides volunteering at Maestro.) All ten seconds of it. I'll go back to the garage now.

I think I prefer BitchMuse, Jordan. Funny thing was, right after I wrote that I was like apologizing to my muse and assuring her it was a joke. I actually try very hard to maintain a good relationship with her. Thanks for the Buffy audition. I know you're going to have a blast with that show.

Kayla! We're supposed to get together to chat about all things improv et. al. BTW, since I sat next to your buds at Maestro they betrayed your real age, ya pup! Don't worry, you seem like a peer to me.
