Austin Sketch Fest 2011 is proud to announce a workshop with Mary Jo Pehl of Mystery Science Theater 3000, Cinematic Titanic, and more! Mary Jo will also be performing a piece at the Best of the Festival show at ColdTowne Theater on Sunday, May 29 at 7PM (tickets available here).

WRITING YOUR HUMOR with Mary Jo Pehl
Saturday, May 28, 10AM-2:30PM with half-hour lunch break

“This half-day workshop will focus on writing from the personal point of view. Using a number of writing exercises, we’ll develop humorous first personal essays, and we’ll explore ways to use that humor in other writing and performance. Come prepared to write and read some of your work aloud to the class. Feel free to email me with any questions: mjopehl@gmail.com.” – Mary Jo Pehl

Mary Jo Pehl is a former writer and actor for the cult television show Mystery Science Theater 3000, and currently tours with Cinematic Titanic, the live version of MST3K, as a performer, writer and producer.

Mary Jo has written for Austin Monthly, Austin Chronicle and Minnesota Monthly. She’s also contributed to Life’s A Stitch: The Best of Contemporary Women’s Humor and Travelers’ Tales: The Thong Also Rises. She has appeared on Comedy Central and A&E, and has appeared in stage productions in New York and Los Angeles. Pehl has also contributed to RiffTrax. Pehl’s commentaries have aired on NPR’s All Things Considered, Weekend America, and The Savvy Traveler on NPR. She’s also been a guest movie mocker with Austin’s own Master Pancake Theater.

Pehl’s compilation of stories and essays, Employee of The Month and Other Big Deals will be published any minute now, 2011.[/url]

Last minute location change for this. It will be at the Spider House Ballroom (formerly USAA!). Same time, same place. Still a couple of spots left.
