ice cream suggestions?

Post by Rev. Jordan T. Maxwell »

okay, Austin improv brain trust, i need to access your vast matrix of knowledge for awesome ice cream joints in town (Val, are you up and running yet?). Amy's is excellent, but i want to have some less well known back ups if necessary. Thanks!

Royal Blue Grocery sells a brand of ice cream called Jeni's that is AMAZING. It's expensive (like $11 a pint) but unbelievably delicious with unique flavors (like salty caramel, blackberry crumble, fig and goat cheese). I think it's the best in town (if you're looking for ice cream to blow your mind).

There is an amazing trailer that does upscale Ice Cream Sandwiches called COOLHAUS. My favorite is the Fig and Marscapone. You can find where the trailer is going to be here: http://eatcoolhaus.com/austin/

I interviewed with the couple who owns Cool Haus. They were so excited when they showed me their new ice cream truck & had me taste their edible wrappers. They're pretty fantastic people and they love the improv scene.

They're open to the community so we need to team up with them in the future.

Yeah, you could eat it there, they have tables both indoors and out and plastic utensils and such on-hand.

My favorite place to get cool treats is Dolce Vita in Hyde Park. It's gelato, not ice cream (which I know is superior to gelato), but they have some delicious flavors that change regularly. Just a heads up:) Good luck on your ice cream search...

I've always considered gelato superior to ice cream, but perhaps this is a personal matter.

The other day I thought about having Whole Foods Gelato but I was in the middle of a Whole Foods Tamale and a Whole Foods Smoothie at the time, it seemed gluttonous.

But who doesn't like a sno cone instead since we went to all the bother of being in Austin? Casey's or Sno Beach, these are great ice cream alternatives.

well, having her actually show up would have been the best possible option, regardless of location. lol!

i prefer ice cream to gelato, but like gelato just fine (also dig the fro yo a slight bit more). not sure where custard fits into the equation for me. Sno cone if i'm by the pool or the lake. it's highly associated with swimming as a treat for me. ;)

YES! I think Fro Yo may be my favorite amongst the frozen options. Pick my own size and flavor and fruits and shit! Tell myself it's kinda more healthy than straight-up ice cream...hell yeah.

Though I do love the vegan soft serve Toy Joy/Sweet Ritual makes. It's really amazing, kinda has a icy/sandy texture and a really palatable natural flavor.
